Who we are
Farmlands Guyana Inc (FGI) is a company on a mission to support global food security and nutrition. Inspired by the laudable United Nations Sustainable Development Goals of “no poverty, zero hunger and good health and wellbeing”, FGI intends to use its current 24,975 acre/ 10,100 hectares1 operation to concentrate its efforts at the origin of the food value chain. Its market focus starts with the opportunity offered by the more than 15 million people living within the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM) who spend more than USD 5 billion on food.
The value of any investment is enhanced by the decision of CARICOM to reduce its food import bill by 25% in five years. International investors partnering with FGI will therefore be well placed to take advantage of this regional trade creation strategy and enjoy easy entry into the regional food market as well as access to European markets through the Economic Partnership Agreement. It is important to note that Guyana’s President, His Excellency, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali is the Head for the Agriculture, Agricultural Diversification and Food Security in the Caricom Region. Guyana is playing a lead role in achieving the Region’s food security goals.
FGI is led by a team with more than 30 years of experience in doing business in Guyana. This experience is now being used to target the production of corn and soybeans which will serve as feed inputs in the growing domestic and regional poultry industry. The operations are situated in a location in Guyana with some of the best agricultural soil and is therefore suited to producing corn and soybeans. The location of FGI’s 24,975 acres is accessible by both road and river. There is direct access to the Berbice River for cheap transport of the produce. Rainfall in the area is adequate and drainage poses little difficulties. Investor value is enhanced with the special incentives granted for investing in the area where the FGI land is available such as duty-free concession on the importation of machinery, equipment and spare parts.
